Volunteer RecognitionThe amazing difference that volunteers make every day is impossible to measure. Everyone who volunteers their time to help our community is a hero, and taking the time to recognize them for their efforts is one of the most important things a volunteer agency can do. That’s why it is so important to take the time and sincerely thank your team of volunteers.

The simple act of expressing gratitude can go a long way. It boosts morale, encourages more volunteer participation, and brings continued success to your cause. In a way, volunteer recognition is like a volunteer’s “paycheck.” It lets them know that their time and effort was worth it and that they made a positive impact. When volunteers feel appreciated, they become more motivated, more productive and more likely to volunteer on future projects.

There are so many different and effective ways to express gratitude, and fortunately for volunteer agencies, very few of them severely impact the budget. In fact, according to a recent study, the ways volunteers want to be recognized most cost little to nothing. Certificates of appreciation, a celebration at the completion of a project, and handwritten thank-you cards are great ways to recognize all the hard work your volunteer team has done.

April’s National Volunteer Week Annual Celebration of Service Event

In the spirit of recognizing and appreciating our volunteers, we are holding our annual Volunteer Hero Program event, which honors individuals for their dedication and service to the island community. This celebration is taking place on April 12th, during National Volunteer Week (April 10-16, 2016). During the celebration, we will recognize Volunteer Heroes who were nominated by the community.
