Even though he retired in 2009, George Gonzalez knew he wanted to stay connected to the community and give back. He became a volunteer with Na Hoaloha, neighbors helping neighbors, as a friendly visitor to homebound seniors. Soon after, he added transportation to his volunteer service, helping other seniors get to their doctors’ appointments from upcountry to Wailuku. Known for his welcome smile, George has spent hundreds of volunteer hours and thousands of miles helping others maintain their independence and stay connected. There are truly no strangers in George’s world, because everyone who knows him is instantly and forever a friend.
